I had such a good time painting Miss Nina Simone, for the Palabra Series, that I had to share it with you. This quote is taken from the recently released Netflix original documentary “What Happened, Miss Simone?”
As a creative maker, this quote hits deep, and reminds me that my job is to create work that reminds me to stay woke. If you’re reading this and you make art, I urge you to lend your services to grassroots movements, to create work that challenges white supremacist, hetero-patririachal systems of power. We have the power to shape and mold the worlds we want to live in.
